Don't spread yourself too thin and try to do everything in high school. It's fine to experiment with different clubs and activities in the first year or two, but once you get to junior or senior year, being passionate and excelling at a few things trumps being a mediocre jack-of-all-trades any day.
Often times, prospective applicants will ask current students, "What did you do to get into [college]?" The bottom line: it really doesn't matter what activity you do, as long as you choose something and give it your all. Trust me, there really is no "one" formula.
