Controller

Categories: Accounting, Careers

Sounds like a particularly overbearing comic book villain. Someone who can take over Superman's mind and control him from afar. But no, it's actually that relatively mild-mannered person in the accounting department.

While not necessarily bent on world domination, a corporate controller does carry a lot of responsibility within a company. It's usually the person a step below the CFO (chief financial officer). Controllers basically look over the flow of money, helping to make budgets and watch over the financial reporting/auditing process.
