Globex, short for CME Globex, is the biggest electronic commodities trade exchange on the planet. It’s available 23 hours a day, five days a week, and it handles millions of orders—yes, millions—on each of those five days.
CME Globex was developed for the Chicago Mercantile Exchange back in the early ‘90s after some folks decided it would be really cool to provide a cheap, fast, electronic way to trade futures after hours. In the beginning, it only offered a few products, but it was so convenient that investors wanted more.
The CME Group (Globex’s parents) have expanded Globex over the years from an itty-bitty trade platform with four products to an electronic exchange that is available in over 150 countries and offers options in categories that range from precious metals to cattle to natural gas.
