A good portion of the world's futures trading takes place in Chicago. If you don't happen to like deep dish pizza or drunken Cubs fans, you have a few other options. For a few decades, the New York Futures Exchange was one of them.
The NYFE started business in 1980 as an attempt by the New York Stock Exchange to catch up with the Chicago Board of Trade and the American Stock Exchange, which pioneered the growth of futures trading in the 1970s. Throughout its existence, the NYFE focused on financial futures, related to things like Treasury bonds or stock indexes. It's seen a series of mergers and consolidations over the years, including a 2007 acquisition by the IntercontinentalExchange. The business formerly conducted under the NYFE name now takes place under the brand ICE Futures.
