It’s like cultures found in nations…only it’s specific to an organization.
It’s what sets the country apart, makes it unique. Even companies in the same industry will have different cultures from within.
An organizational culture does not have to mirror a national or regional culture. And it often doesn’t, although it’ll likely be influenced by the environment. In addition, a global company might have differences in its internal culture depending on the location, kind of like a country, which can have a main culture and subcultures. Organizations can have that, too.
Burger King has its own culture, but it has sub-cultures depending on the individual restaurant location. A Burger King in Japan will be different than a Burger King in Los Angeles or Miami.
Same deal with Starbucks and Ben & Jerry's and Nike: super liberal politically. Coors, Exxon, and Koch Industries: super right.
