The catalyst or driving force behind an event.
The promoter promotes. She gets the star boxers in the press. She stages a fake pre-fight fight. She has the parents of each give declaratory statements from prison.
The promoter is often the producer, the pusher of revenues, the marketing guru, the synergist. If the event gets a big rating, the promoter wins, or at least gets a fat bonus check.
Fat = good.
