You care. You're not wearing a shirt; you're showing skin. If the dodgeball hits you, it'll hurt.

The allegory applies to "the investing game": investors with skin in the game have invested a meaningful amount of money in a given venture, and are, well...optimistic that, at the end of the rainbow, when the success or failure of the investment is assessed, they'll get lavender lotion on their skin and not rubber dodgeball thwackings.
