Context
This line is written by Matthew in Matthew 12:25.
Jesus casts a devil out of someone who is possessed and, ironically, the Pharisees accuse him using Beelzebub's power to do it. And Jesus is like, "Yeah, that makes no sense. Why would the devil give anyone power to cast out devils?"
Where you've heard it
Good ol' Honest Abe Lincoln quoted this scripture in a famous speech we now call "The House Divided Speech." You knew it sounded familiar, right? When Abe gave his speech, he was talking about the dangers of a nation divided by slavery. We all know what happened next. You know, that whole North/South, Civil War thing?
Pretentious Factor
If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.
This one might sound a bit uppity coming from anyone less honest than Abe himself.
