Speaker: Title Sequence

The truth is out there.

Context

This line appears at the end of the title sequence in the TV show The X-Files (1993-2002).

UFOs. Mysterious symbols. Plasma globes.

The X-Files division of the FBI investigated all these strange supernatural phenomena (and ten-dollar novelty gifts) in the hit show The X-Files. We see them all in the show's title sequence, which ends with the phrase, "The truth is out there."

Where you've heard it

You hear this any time someone is looking for the truth, and (like the ever-optimistic Fox Mulder) believes it's out there.

Somewhere.

Pretentious Factor

If you were to drop this quote at a dinner party, would you get an in-unison "awww" or would everyone roll their eyes and never invite you back? Here it is, on a scale of 1-10.

Mulder and Scully: we love 'em, but they might just be the most pretentious duo ever to walk the planet.
