Thomas More

More is the "man for all seasons" of the title—it's definitely his story and there are no other good candidates for protagonist. He's the one in conflict, and we watch him stand up to the entire English political establishment.

The action of the movie completely focuses on More's act of resistance and his attempt to keep his principles by resisting the machinations of Cromwell and the stronger temptations of family happiness and a longer life. Without More, there would be no movie. His example of martyrdom and sainthood is the foundation of the whole thing.
