Character Role Analysis

Clyde and Buck; Bonnie and Blanche

Buck and Blanche, the Barrow Gang's other couple, act as excellent foils for Clyde and Bonnie.

Unlike Clyde, Buck isn't handsome or slick. He's ordinary in just about every sense of the word. In fact, he admires his younger brother and in some ways sees him as a role model.

And Bonnie is clearly everything Blanche isn' t. She's not especially attractive or stylish. She's not smart or clever. And perhaps most important, she's a terrible outlaw. She can't contribute to any of the hold-ups. And she can't handle the pressures that come with the job.
