Personal Fun Trainer
- Nobody said the cat wasn't demanding. He shouts: "Look at me!/ Look at me! / Look at me NOW!" (81-89)
- Repetitive, sure, but at least we get the point.
- As with any great teacher's demands for attention, there's a purpose behind the Cat's plea. He's just trying to teach these kids how to have fun: "It is fun to have fun/ but you have to know how" (90-91).
- You don't have to tell Shmoop. That's preaching to the choir.
- To demonstrate, the Cat continues bouncing and adds more stuff to his balancing act: a rake, a toy man with a long beard, a tea cup, and… yet another book.
- Best of all—and what makes the illustration for lines 87-104 so irreShmoopable—the Cat has his tail wrapped around a paper hand fan.
- The look on the Cat's face is priceless. Frankly, his grin is a tad sloppy, and his eyes might even be boozy. Maybe it's not milk on the tray after all. Or maybe that's just how you look during the climax of a bouncing spree.
