• McClane travels to L.A. to visit his wife, Holly, and kids for the holidays.
• No sooner does he arrive at his wife's office—Nakatomi Plaza—than it is taken over by some very angry and ruthless terrorists.
• McClane manages to escape the fray and throws a wrench in the terrorists' plans.
• He gets the police involved, kills a few bad guys, and escapes capture, using the building's inner workings to evade the bad guys.
• After doing away with most of the baddies, with the help of his sidekick-on-the-ground, McClane discovers that Holly has been taken hostage by a desperate Hans.
• In a final showdown with the movie's Big Bad, McClane shoots Hans, who falls out a window of the high-rise.
• McClane and Holly are reunited and emerge from the building's wreckage relatively unscathed.
