Sergeant Al Powell

We'd call Al Powell more of a sidekick, but he does fit the mentor bill, too. After all, it's his support on the ground that helps McClane keep going—and sometimes provides key information, too (such as warning John about the SWAT siege). Al gives McClane the strength to keep on keeping on, and that sounds like a guide to Shmoop.
