Exactly how steamy is this story?

There is almost no sex in this book. Douglass mentions that slave masters would sometimes rape their slaves, but he doesn't go into any detail. And even though he sort of suggests that Aunt Hester was beaten because her master was jealous that she started "seeing" another slave, Douglass doesn't give us any other details. Beyond that, there isn't any sex, though there certainly is a lot of violence.
