Pinocchio Family Quotes

How we cite our quotes: All quotations are from Pinocchio.

Quote #1

GEPPETTO: (singing) Little wooden head, go play your part / Bring a little joy to every heart / Little do you know, and yet it's true / That I'm mighty proud of you.

Depending on your perspective, this might just seem insane, but we think it says a lot about Geppetto's character. He's an incredibly earnest dude with a lot of love to give, but he doesn't have a family to share that affection with. As a result, he finds fulfillment through his woodworking in general, and especially his latest masterpiece—Pinocchio.

Quote #2

GEPPETTO: Good night, Pinocchio, little funny face. Good night, Cleo, my little water baby. Figaro, you say good night, too.

Besides Pinocchio, Geppetto has created a surrogate family with his cat, Figaro, and his fish, Cleo. What an odd trio. Still, this is another reminder of how Geppetto deeply desires a family of his own, even if it isn't in the cards for him.

Quote #3

GEPPETTO: A real boy. It's my wish. It's come true. Figaro, look! He's alive! He can talk!

Geppetto is beyond psyched when he realizes that Pinocchio has come to life. We'd probably be screaming bloody murder and calling an exorcist, but hey—to each their own.

Quote #4

GEPPETTO: Oh, everybody has to sleep. Figaro goes to sleep, and Cleo, and besides—tomorrow you've got to go to school.

It doesn't take long for Geppetto to fully integrate Pinocchio into the family, even sending him off to school the day after he comes to life. It seems a little soon to send a one-day-old off to school by himself, but Geppetto is so excited he doesn't think about any potential consequences.

Quote #5

PINOCCHIO: Goodbye, Father.

GEPPETTO: Goodbye, son. Hurry back.

This is small moment that occurs as Pinocchio is rushing off for his first day of school, but we think it shows how quickly Geppetto and Pinocchio have bonded.

Quote #6

GEPPETTO: What could have happened to him? Where could he be at this hour? I'd better go out again and look for him.

Unsurprisingly, Geppetto goes into a panic when Pinocchio doesn't return from his first day of school. This moment is made all the more heart-breaking by the visuals: in his excitement, Geppetto had prepared a massive spread of food to celebrate his new son. Now it's going to waste.

Quote #7

PINOCCHIO: I'll run right home and tell my father.

STROMBOLI: (spits out wine) Home? Oh, sure, going home to your father. Oh, that is very comical.

In his naivety, Pinocchio assumes that he'll be able to go back home after working with Stromboli. As we see here, however, it's not so simple. This is our wooden friend's first indication that not everyone out there is as compassionate and caring as the kindly Geppetto.

Quote #8

JIMINY: It's about your father.

PINOCCHIO: Where is he?

JIMINY: Why, it says here he went looking for you, and he was swallowed by a whale.

This is a huge bummer for Pinocchio, as he's just fought tooth and nail to escape the horrors of Pleasure Island. Still, it goes to show just how much Geppetto loves his kid. He must have been getting up to some crazy stuff if he ended up getting swallowed by a whale.

Quote #9

JIMINY: Where're you going?

PINOCCHIO: I'm going to find him.

JIMINY: Pinoch, are you crazy?

In same way that Geppetto risked his life to find Pinocchio, Pinocchio is now doing the same to save his pops. Like father, like son.

Quote #10

GEPPETTO: I never thought it would end this way, Figaro. Starving to death in the belly of a whale. My poor little Pinocchio. He was such a good boy.

This is a telling moment. Geppetto is literally inside the belly of the most fearsome whale that's ever lived, starving to death, but he's primarily concerned about Pinocchio. If that doesn't give you an indication of how much this woodworker loves his favorite creation, then we don't know what will.
