Character Role Analysis

Harry "Rabbit" Angstrom

If Harry Angstrom is an unlikely Rabbit, he’s an equally unlikely protagonist. The novel is mostly from his perspective and the title contains his name. As much as he can be a jerk, we can’t help but like him, and even love him a little. To find him wholly a villain is to fall into the trap the book sets for us, and the trap he’s trying to get out of. He tries to keep from hurting people (sometimes by running away), but society keeps prescribing situations for him (like staying with Janice) that will make that impossible.
