Sonny

The protagonist is the central character of the story, and although we hear the most from the narrator, Sonny is really at the heart of this narrative. Everything in the story revolves around him. He's a kind of complicated protagonist, since we might not all agree that Sonny is hero. However, a protagonist is usually someone we're pulling for, and most of us probably hope Sonny will get his life together, for his own sake and for the sake of his family.
