Survival in Auschwitz (If this is a man) Chapter 7 Summary

A Good Day

  • The Buna, the rubber factory at the camp, is as large as a city.
  • One particular sunny day seems like A Good Day to the prisoners, since the sun is out and they get some relief from the cold.
  • Now, if only they could do something about their constant hunger.
  • The prisoners watch a steam shovel eat the dirt with its hungry mouth, and they mimic its eating movements.
  • There's another reason why today is a pretty good day: the prisoners get extra rations because Templer, the Kommando's organizer, has found an extra pot containing eleven gallons of soup.
