Character Analysis
Dee and Dum, named for the Tweedle twins from Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, are the kitchen servants at Peekay's family's place. The fact that they are utterly indistinguishable in the story is probably a way of showing the racist system that has all of the black people in South Africa working for the white people without any recognition of their individuality.
The two girls are very concerned with taking care of Peekay, always cooking him his favorite foods. They adopt Doc, too, for good measure, keeping his cactus garden and cottage in shape while he's in jail.
