• Chap I—Dr. Manhattan performs experiments as Rorschach breaks in. Laurie Juspeczyk doesn’t appreciate the unwelcome guest, so Doc Man teleports him away.
• Chap II—G.S. (Giant Smurf) sends Laurie to her mom’s in Southern California while he attends Edward Blake’s funeral. He recalls meeting Blake in Saigon at the end of the Vietnam War, where he is accused of losing interest in humanity, even Janey Slater and Laurie Juspeczyk.
• Chap III—Laurie walks out on Dr. M right before his big interview on live TV. After being accused of causing cancer to his loved ones, Dr. M is done with this whole “Earth” thing, and shoots up to Mars.
• Chapter C: Under the Hood (V) by Hollis Mason—Dr. Manhattan’s arrival in 1960 changes the rules of the game, for superheroes in the Minutemen, as well as America overall.
• Chap IV—KEY CHAPTER: Dr. M sits on Mars and thinks things over. Kind of like this guy. He looks back on his life.
• Chapter D: Dr. Manhattan: Super-Powers and the Superpowers—KEY CHAPTER: Dr. M’s mentor, Professor Milton Glass, explains the situation.
• Chap V to VII—MIA, brooding on Mars. Just a day in the life…
• Chap VIII—Dr. M appears in Dan Dreiberg’s living room to bring Laurie back to Mars with him, so she can persuade him to save humanity.
• Chap IX—KEY CHAPTER: Dr. M and Laurie duel with words and ideas. Eventually, she wins, and the two of them return to see what’s what and find out who’s behind it all.
• Chap X & XI—MIA, en route to Earth?
• Chap XII—Downtown New York. Dr. M and Laurie wander through the wreckage. He deduces the signal that slowed him down is coming from the South Pole. He and Laurie arrive in Karnak. Veidt tries to vaporize him. Dr. M goes Incredible Hulk-berserk, then realizes Veidt is right. To preserve the peace, Dr. M kills Rorschach, and leaves the galaxy to create new life elsewhere.
