Adrian Veidt (Ozymandias) Timeline and Summary
MoreAdrian Veidt (Ozymandias) Timeline and Summary
- Chap I—From his penthouse office, Veidt chats with Rorschach about Edward Blake’s murder. Veidt suggests the Soviets might have done it (October 13, 1985).
- Chap II—Veidt attends Blake’s funeral, and flashes back to the first Crimebusters meeting in 1966.
- Chap III—MIA (Missing in Action) or, you know, just busy planning to save/destroy the world.
- Chapter C: Under the Hood (V) by Hollis Mason—As a young Ozymandias in 1958, Veidt busts “a major opium and heroin smuggling racket,” which impresses Hollis Mason, the original Nite Owl.
- Chap IV—MIA, mostly
- Chap V—Back in his penthouse office, Veidt thwarts (that’s a funny word, isn’t it?) an assassination attempt. He’ll have to find a new secretary, though.
- Chap VI—MIA
- Chap VII—As Ozymandias, Veidt appears on TV in a charity gymnastics show. Veidt is suave and powerful.
- Chap VIII & Chap IX—MIA
- Chap X—Veidt hangs out at Karnak, his Antarctic retreat, and watches many TV screens at once, looking for ways to make a buck. He sits and waits for his old allies Nite Owl and Rorschach to try and stop him.
- Chapter J: Memos from Veidt Enterprises—KEY CHAPTER: For a little insight into Veidt’s point-of-view, these scribblings show a man who’s sensitive and respectful, even as he craves and seeks power, bulldozing his way to the top.
- Chap XI—Veidt scopes out his vivarium (to us, it looks like a giant biodome). He reveals his life story to three poisoned servants. He disarms Nite Owl and Rorschach (not literally, they still have their arms) and lets them in on his plan. It’s so crazy it just might work, and it does. Veidt’s monster squid bomb goes off in New York City.
- Chapter K: After the Masquerade: Superstyle and the art of humanoid watching—KEY CHAPTER: This interview shows another side to the smartest man in the world. Try and hate Veidt completely. It’s not easy, is it?
- Chap XII—Veidt tries to vaporize Dr. Manhattan, and sacrifices Bubastis in the process. The big blue guy comes back with a vengeance, but sides with Veidt. America and the USSR declare peace. Veidt goes off to meditate; it’s important to take some alone time when you’ve killed three million people to save the world.
