Terri and Mel might bicker, but Ed's the real bad guy here. He may be dead, and his days of harming the main couple may be over, but his presence lingers on in their relationship in decidedly unhealthy ways. And it's clear that Terri's experiences with Ed have deeply affected her definition of love, which drives a wedge between her and her husband throughout the story.
