things your parents your teachers your boss everybody's a critic
- 00:25
even your dogs Where does he get the gulf Okay
- 00:28
so it's not fun to be told you're wrong or
- 00:30
that something you've done and so great But most the
- 00:33
time people aren't criticizing you just hurt your feelings unless
- 00:37
they're in a seriously bad mood Well sometimes your friends
- 00:40
your family members teacher boss they're trying to help you
- 00:43
by saying something isn't the very best it could be
- 00:46
even if what they're saying makes your ears one toe
- 00:48
you know close up shop in college today but often
- 00:51
people are just trying to provide solutions the problems commonly
- 00:54
referred to as constructive criticism catchy title there constructive criticism
- 01:00
is way different and just ragged on someone or complaining
- 01:03
about them which can be fun too but not nearly
- 01:05
as productive Just go watch reality tv for details there
- 01:09
Are a few things you can do when someone offers
- 01:11
you constructive criticism Well for one you can take the
- 01:14
advice and make the change maybe not a bad idea
- 01:17
or you can simply say thank you You don't actually
- 01:19
have to make the change if you don't think it'll
- 01:21
help others khun suggest you cut a paragraph from an
- 01:24
essay but only you get to the lord high executioner
- 01:27
and actually swing the ax If you so choose How
- 01:30
about a thank you would be at least nice and
- 01:32
nobody likes it when they're well meaning advice has taken
- 01:34
the wrong way and twisted into something hurtful You don't
- 01:37
want to be sarcastic or mean or nasty to someone
- 01:40
who's just trying to help you idea Well may we
- 01:42
suggest you invest in a punching bag Sounds like you
- 01:45
have some psychological stuff to work out but yeah arguing
- 01:48
with people who you're tryingto help is not gonna win
- 01:51
many friends for you or make you very popular If
- 01:54
you're into that sort of thing it only makes you
- 01:56
look small and insecure like you fight back and nobody
- 01:59
wants to hang out with a know it all who
- 02:01
Can't handle making a mistake and we're looking at you
- 02:04
her miami everyone makes mistakes Yeah even us even shmoop
- 02:08
er's and do that make tons of mistakes and no
- 02:11
one can know everything back Even einstein needed an editor
- 02:14
for his books He probably stunk it doing his own
- 02:17
taxes So just remember it's not the mistakes you make
- 02:20
along the way It's your ability to learn from them
- 02:22
improve and move on And if somebody offers you something
- 02:26
well intentioned advice that maybe isn't so hot Yeah mom
- 02:30
don't don't don't do that be gracious about it and
- 02:33
thank the person for karin about yet maybe even give
- 02:36
them a hug if they're a touchy feely kind Yeah 00:02:38.87 --> [endTime] okay well maybe just a thank you
