- 00:12

object that is going to return later in the story
- 00:32
It could be by putting something in the narration that
- 00:34
hints at something to happen in the future For it
- 00:38
could be by you know repeating a certain phrase so
- 00:41
that you get a sense that it's important Foreshadowing is
- 00:46
basically any time that you get a little glimpse into
- 00:49
the future and in this novel that happens in a
- 00:53
bunch of ways mostly in the very early scenes So
- 00:57
we know when melinda is on the bus that she
- 01:00
has done something wrong to the other kids we don't
- 01:04
yet know exactly what it is but we have a
- 01:06
sense that we're going to find out and then the
- 01:08
other kids are calling her a very specific names they're
- 01:11
taunting her there's a scene with a ho ho rapper
- 01:16
that indicates basically that the other kids think that she's
- 01:19
really promiscuous and so that we know and we know
- 01:24
somehow that like teenage sexuality is going to be involved
- 01:27
even though we don't exactly know what she did or
- 01:29
why So we're looking out for that And then when
- 01:33
she starts talking about it we know that there's a
- 01:36
person involved you either did something to her or she
- 01:40
did something to that person And so we have all
- 01:44
these little clues that there's going to be an event
- 01:48
there's going to be a significant other person and that
- 01:50
it probably involves sex which is pretty ominous Even though
- 01:56
we don't have this story yet What is foreshadowing And 00:02:02.8 --> [endTime] how is it used in the novel
