If you've chosen a career in acupuncture, you've probably done so because you believe the practice can help people. When people come to you, they usually believe you can help, too. As long as they leave your office happy, we'd say you've accomplished your job and everybody won. (Everybody includes you, by the way.)

Let's say you were a traditional doctor, and Betty Sue Somebody shows up with a sore lower back. You give her some ibuprofen and shoo her away to the pharmacy. Now, let's say you were an acupuncturist. Betty Sue Somebody's initial appointment takes over an hour, during which time you learn that she's worried about her back because she can no longer pick up her young child during playtime. Assuming both doctors fix Betty Sue's problem, who feels better about getting her back on track?

Dedicating your life to helping people can be incredibly rewarding, and because acupuncturists are typically more involved on a personal level with their patients, that reward has the potential to be massive. Will you be warm and fuzzy with feels 24/7? It all depends on the type of person you are, and what makes you feel good, but the opportunity is there.
