Physical Danger
If you're a linguistic anthropologist who spends most of his time in an office or library, the most you probably have to worry about is a heavy book landing on your head from the top shelf. But if you're a sociocultural anthropologist who is researching first-hand the cannibalistic Korowai tribe of Papua New Guinea, you may want to hide the lemon pepper.
Most anthropologists don't work in dangerous environments, however, so don't start assuming you're doomed to run into a grumpy head-shrinker at some point who is going to relieve your hair—and the head it's attached to—of all its volume. You may have to see a shrink, but it will more likely than not be the note-taking type.
Just remember to pack appropriately before heading off to do fieldwork; if you're going to be schlepping around Nunavut, don't forget your jacket.
