20-Year Prospect
There's certainly no reason to think the sport of figure skating is going anywhere soon. It's also certainly not a career you can expect to last more than two decades, unless you parlay your skating into a coaching gig. In twenty years, it'll be just as difficult to make it to the big time as a figure skater, and just as difficult to maintain a career in this grueling, injury-ridden sport.
It's also unlikely that the popularity of cruise ship ice dancing shows or Disney on Ice will diminish over the coming decades.
People will still want to travel (and will want to be entertained while they're stuck on a cruise ship for a week), and Disney will definitely continue to take money from patrons looking to see beautiful ice dancing choreography and graceful figure skating. Keeping them interested in the majesty of the experience is where you come in.
Just always be aware that as you get older, the work will be harder to maintain. It wouldn't hurt to have a back-up career in mind just in case.
