Fame

Fame won't find you in a furniture assembling plant. It's possible to be famous among your co-workers as the guy who wears a bowtie every day, or the girl who only wears Pearl Jam concert t-shirts. It'd kind of be like being a Kardashian...in that everyone would know what you were wearing.

As a shop owner, however, you might get featured in the local newspaper. You also have the option of showing off your skills on YouTube by producing DIY videos. If you've got some serious marketing chops alongside those mad woodworking skills, you might even have your own DIY TV show. It would only reach a certain audience, but it'd still be pretty cool. Fame is fame, right?

You can also find fame as a designer. It's a long shot, and people are more likely to recognize your work than your name, but what you design could become an enduring classic, a hallmark of a design era, and something that all the cool kids want in their apartments. It could be as simple as fashioning trendy coffee tables out of driftwood and old doors, or welding steel tubes to make neo-modern bar stools. Don't worry if your funky furniture turns out to be really uncomfortable and impractical. You can always sell it to local hipster cafes and bars.
