Common Core Standards
Grade 7
Writing W.7.9
Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
This one is really self-explanatory. As long as students are writing and the seventh grade reading standards are being met in their analysis/reflection/research, this standard should be met with no problems.
Standard Components
Example 1
Here's a lesson that goes with a unit about global literature.
Have students use a selection from The True History of the Kelly Gang to complete an analysis frame. They should focus on the nonfiction elements for the selection such as main idea, details, and tone in order to support a thesis about the author's purpose.
