Harvard University
Hallmarks and Quirks
Things I'm Good At:
- Economics. Sounds boring, but it'll take you places.
- Intramural sports. I'm pretty intense when it comes to these, but it's a good thing, I swear.
- Being "exclusive." There are a lot of locked doors I can get you past. Well, if you know the right people.
- Ivy League basketball. It's getting closer and closer to being comparable to real Division 1 basketball.
My Top 5 Must-Haves:
- A nice sweater. It's classy but cozy.
- Rain boots. Anything rubber that I can put on my feet.
- Boat shoes. Can't look out of place when the boys and girls are skimming down the Charles.
- A suit would be nice. I find myself going to a lot of business attire/black tie kinds of events.
- Crimson gear in general. It's a good color. It's becoming.
Why You Might Have Heard of Me:
- Science, math, literature, philosophy…all that academic stuff.
- I'm the oldest college in the country.
- The Social Network and other miscellaneous Academy Award-winning films have featured me.
- You might have heard of me from Yale. All bad things, I assume.
On a regular Saturday night, you can find me...
I'm probably in the dorms. So many students live on campus that it's hard not to find yourself in someone's room. That said, there are some exquisite little eating spots in Harvard Square. And all the bars check IDs so minors won't be setting foot in there for a while.
Favorite Hangouts:
- Much to my chagrin, there still isn't an open space for students, so I think I'll be hanging around my friends' rooms for the next few years.
- Pinocchio's Pizza is delicious. No lies.
- I wish I could say "near a fireplace," but fire codes took those out of the dorms, which is an injustice to all.
Quirks:
- Hundreds of summer and winter programs to keep you occupied during your off-time. Never waste a minute.
- Sometimes, it seems like my dropouts are the most successful. Go figure.
- Greek life is present but nothing to write home about. Instead I have elite "clubs," which are like frats, but they have to invite you to rush and they get to think they're really cool.
Famous Alumni:
- Matt Damon, like his character in Good Will Hunting except, you know, official.
- Bill Gates, a dropout we love to boast
- Natalie Portman, Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actress
- Mark Zuckerberg, another dropout we love to boast
- Mira Sorvino, another Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning actress. We sure love patterns.
- Roger Ferguson, Jr., of the retirement services provider TIAA-CREF.
- Charles Haldeman, Jr., of mortgage firm Freddie Mac.
