Quote #4
I was afraid to ask, but I had to know. "And what, exactly, are you?" It sounded so crazy that I almost couldn't say the words. (9.15.74)
Ethan finally decides to confront the supernatural here. Until this point, he hasn't had words for anything that's been happening. By getting Lena to label it, calling herself a Caster, it makes him feel a bit more comfortable.
Quote #5
"Ravens are the most powerful birds in the Caster world. Legend has it that they can draw energy into themselves and release it in other forms. Sometimes they're even feared because of their power." (9.24.35)
Here Lena is describing the raven charm she wears on her necklace. Maybe this is where the Ravenwood family gets its name. After all, drawing energy in and then releasing it in other forms sounds kind of like what Lena does with lightning and rain, doesn't it?
Quote #6
[Ridley's] skin seemed to be tightening around her bones, accentuating every vein until you could almost see the blood pumping through them. She looked like a monster. (10.09[1].165)
Prior to this, Ethan just goes with the flow. He doesn't bat an eye when Lena controls the weather and breaks windows with her mind. But now, with Ridley about to go nuclear, he sees that Caster powers can be sinister and should be taken very seriously. Welcome to sanity, Ethan!
