How we cite our quotes: (Chapter:Verse)
Quote #10
I fell down at his feet to worship [the angel], but he said to me, "You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your comrades who hold the testimony of Jesus. Worship God!" (NRSV 19:10)
And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. (KJV 19:10)
John takes the worship a little too far here. He tries to praise the angel, but he is not having any of it. This almost seems like a warning: sure, we've all seen some amazing things here, but let's remember who is the most amazing of all.
Quote #11
[The angel] carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. It has the glory of God and a radiance like a very rare jewel, like jasper, clear as crystal. It has a great, high wall with twelve gates[…] The wall is built of jasper, while the city is pure gold, clear as glass. The foundations of the wall of the city are adorned with every jewel; And[…] each of the gates is a single pearl, and the street of the city is pure gold, transparent as glass. (NRSV 21:10-12, 18-19, 21)
And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal; And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates[…] And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass. And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones[…] And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. (KJV 21:10-12, 18-19, 21)
Wow, God is one heck of an architect. The final dwelling place for the faithful is probably one of the most astonishing sights in the whole book. Our only question is, when do we get the jewel-encrusted keys?
