Character Analysis
The coach/manager of the Knights, Red Blow is a sweetheart who's always looking out for Pop and Roy. When Roy gets to New York, Red takes him out for dinner and a movie and shows him around town. He's the one who tells Roy about Pop's unhappy "Flop" in the majors that's haunted Pop ever since. He gives Roy the general scoop on the team and tells him how the Judge is trying to force Pop out by selling off all the decent players and ruining their chances of success. Red's curious about Roy's past but doesn't push. He tells Pop that Roy's a "natural" and tries to calm Pop's concerns that Roy's success is just beginner's luck. He's the voice of wisdom and perspective on the team, a good antidote to Pop's constant worry.
