Thank you Dividing decimals by decimals Allah shmoop there's A
- 00:07
lot we take for granted For example we haven't always
- 00:09
been able to divide decimals by other decimals However thanks
- 00:12
to a recent supreme court decision decimals are now free
- 00:15
to be divided by one of their own kind Okay

okay We won't make this political You can start to
- 00:20
develop a bit of a headache when you see a
- 00:22
problem like this So many digits So many zeros but
- 00:26
there's actually a really easy trick that makes these problems
- 00:28
that total breeze And i'll save you a trip to
- 00:30
the medicine cabinet for a dose of excedrin Let's Suppose
- 00:33
we got this problem Oh five two divided by point
- 00:37
one three Where do we even begin Well it's going
- 00:40
to be a heck of a lot easier if we
- 00:42
divided by a whole number So let's do that We
- 00:44
start by moving the decimal place in each number over
- 00:47
as many spaces Is it takes to make a point
- 00:49
O one three are divisor ah hole number Are we
- 00:52
allowed to do that Well why isn't anyone blowing a
- 00:55
whistle here Group in mind that whenever we divide one
- 00:57
number by another were basically creating a fraction point Oh
- 01:01
five two divided by point one three is the same
- 01:03
asked point Oh five two over point one three So
- 01:08
if we multiply both top and bottom of the fraction
- 01:10
by a thousand we get point five two divided by
- 01:13
thirteen the exact same value and much easier to work
- 01:17
with right thousand over a thousand is one Don't forget
- 01:20
that from there we just divide like we would any
- 01:22
long division problem We move the decimal place directly upward
- 01:26
and wind up with point oh four which is our
- 01:28
answer and that's Why one decimal being divided by another
- 01:31
decimal isn't so bad Oh if you don't like the 00:01:34.754 --> [endTime] ruling well you people can appeal
