Stress

This may be the kryptonite in an otherwise super career choice. Hotel managers experience overbooked-on-Mardi-Gras-weekend levels of stress on a daily basis. The reality is you must be dedicated to and happy with meeting the needs of each and every guest who enters your building.

And that's just the very basic level of hotel service. Depending on size and location, you may have a restaurant, pool, game room, store, lounge, banquet hall, ball room, roof deck, poker room, and petting zoo. As you can imagine, there are a lot of moving pieces that you have to deal with.

Some managers may feel like they're on-call twenty-four hours a day, since the business never actually closes. Client expectations are consistent in their inconsistency, and there will always be customers unhappy about the fluffiness of the pillows or the sudsiness of the soap, no matter how hard you try to appease them.

But since you're the manager, you're prepared to deal with all of it. After all, your title isn't Hotel Cantmanager (see what we did there?).
