Odds of Getting In
Your odds are excellent. Open positions in the coming years are expected to outnumber the amount of applicants (partly because the pay for pediatricians isn't the best), so you could probably clone yourself and both still get work.
It used to be that "the best and the brightest" in this country became doctors. No longer. Now they get MBAs and go to Wall Street or enter PhD programs in computer science and create big, fat, powerful companies. The medical profession used to be this giant bastion of prestige and exclusivity—and it has certainly fallen in the last two decades. Kinda sad, but great for all you pediatricians-to-be.
