It's more fun with language! At this age, your kids will start to understand idioms, adages, and proverbs. To get them used to common phrases, discuss them in terms of both the figurative and the literal meanings. They'll start to understand how figurative language is so ingrained in our language, but the humorous mental pictures may also be quite memorable. Maybe they'll envision a literal basket-case a.k.a. Grandma sitting in a basket.
