That's a rather ominous way to start a children's book. Was Seuss going for a Dante Alighieri vibe?

To be fair though, it's good advice. Fox in Socks is a tricky little book for children and adults. Like anything tricky, you'll want to take it slow at first, ease into it, and really get to know the course. Otherwise, you could trip up and bruise your ego right away, and that generally leads to discouragement and outright quitting, and no one wants that.

So first time readers, take heed. Take it slow, take it steady. In time, you'll master the book with a tongue as nimble as a gymnast but first, warm-up exercises.
