Fox in Socks Tone
Take a story's temperature by studying its tone. Is it hopeful? Cynical? Snarky? Playful?
Crazy, Tricky, Brainy, Wany Fun
The tone that Dr. Seuss goes for in Fox in Socks is off-the-charts fun and crazy. And he totally succeeds. Rhyme and reason—reason at any rate—have no place. Is there any reason "Slow Joe Crow sews / Knox in box now" (23.1-2)? Nope. Those words only exist in that order because (a) they rhyme, (b) they twist tongues, and (c) they are super fun to say.
Beyond that, just relax and enjoy the read.
