It's tough to pick a protagonist for this book, especially considering how many different characters and storylines there are, but we've got to go with John Harmon. After all, he's the one whose inheritance is the central topic of the novel.

Plus we realize he actually is John Harmon long before any of the other characters do. This gives us an insider's perspective on Harmon that causes us to identify most closely with him through the rest of the book.
