Converting Decimals to Fractions Examples

The last digit, 5, is in the thousandths place. Since there are no whole numbers hanging around and cramping our style, we write all the given digits over 1000 and then simplify.

Convert 5.6 to a fraction.

This decimal has a whole number and a decimal number, so we'll write it as a mixed number with 5 as the whole number and six tenths as the fraction. Don't forget to reduce (and recycle).
