In the Belly of the Beast
- This chapter is a psalm in which Jonah sings of calling out from the depths unto God who saves. Some commentators see this as a parody of the psalms of David, with the singer literally crying out of the depths while being digested by a fish. If this doesn’t seem funny on its face, try method acting and read this chapter with seaweed wrapped around your head.
- After Jonah finishes his praises, God makes the fish vomit Jonah onto dry land. Believe it or not, vomiting has deep spiritual resonance in the Bible. The Torah makes several gross puns about people being vomited out by various countries and even God himself.
- Yuck.
