Last Words
- Although the wicked will be burned to a crisp, “for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings.” (3:2)
- Then follow a few more tips for the road:
- Remember the law of Moses--check.
- “Lo, I will send you the prophet Elijah before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.” (4:5) The book of Kings says that Elijah was taken up to heaven with a fiery chariot and horses, and his return on the last day brings with it the promise of some kickin’ special effects. Christians, though, believe this is a reference to John the Baptist, which in pyrotechnic terms is something of a disappointment.
- Finally, last but not least, here’s the final verse of the Hebrew Bible: “He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents, so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse.” (4:6)
