- Micah is another Minor Prophet from the latter half of the 8th century BCE, when you couldn’t throw a rock in Israel or Judah without hitting a prophet. Of course, sometimes that’s exactly what the rock thrower was aiming to do, but that’s another story.
- Like Amos, Micah is another hick from the sticks taking on career prophets who are friendly to those in power. He is based in Judah, which has just seen Israel get served by the Assyrians and is in danger of being next in line. Imagine living in Alaska on an alternate earth with aggressive Canadians.
- The name Micah can be interpreted to mean “Who is like Yahweh?” If you answer that question with anything except “no one,” you’re his target audience. Micah might be divided into seven chapters, but the book actually consists of three distinct oracles, each beginning with an order to listen. In a miraculous coincidence, each of these oracles fits perfectly when singing karaoke to “Listen” by Beyonce.
