Football is the most popular college sport there is. Straight up. If you've made the squad at a prestigious program like Louisiana State University or the University of Texas, you'll be playing in a stadium that seats over 100,000 people. Whoa.

Of course, if you make it to the NFL, that audience will only get bigger. A "modest" 111.5 million people watched the Super Bowl in 2014 (source). That's about a third of the population of the entire United States (source). (Right now, at least.)

Going to a prestigious program isn't the only way to earn fame, though. Being good at the game helps to raise your stock, too. Just ask Super Bowl winner and NCAA FCS Division I football star Jimmy Garoppolo or Division III stud Ali Marpet.

They didn't need 100,000 fans to become famous. They just needed a chance.
